What is Technical Fabric?

So what defines a technical fabric? Usually this is fabric that have been designed for a specific functional purpose. Ski suits for example are constantly being redeveloped to make them more waterproof, lighter, stronger and better suited for the job. No-one skis in heavy wool anymore.
Technical fabrics in sportswear area are designed around control and comfort and include spandex, neoprene, and polyester, among others. Some of the main goals for technical fabrics in sports are breathability, moisture-wicking ability, odor control, anti-chafing, and stretchiness.
